Position Overview:
Our Richmond, Virginia office is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to join our financial advisory team. The Intern will support advisors in delivering exceptional client service through research, reporting, and administrative support. This role is ideal for students interested in financial planning, investment management, and wealth advisory services.
During your paid internship, you will receive firsthand experience in comprehensive financial planning by assisting a team of Certified Financial Planner® advisors who work with a limited number of clients.
This internship requires in-person office attendance at our Richmond, VA office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare reports for regular analysis of clients’ investments, risk management, cash flow, taxes, and estate planning.
- Support advisors with follow-up items and documentation from client meetings.
- Review client financials throughout the year to help identify opportunities to maximize deductions and credits, reduce tax liabilities, and improve credit management.
- Assist with administrative tasks including record entry, database maintenance, and document scanning/filing.
- Conduct industry and product research to support client recommendations and planning strategies.
- Create client-facing materials such as presentations, proposals, and educational resources.
- Help monitor market trends, economic news, and policy changes that may impact client portfolios.
- Participate in team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to expand industry knowledge.
- Shadow client meetings (when appropriate) to gain exposure to advisor-client interactions.
- Support marketing and business development initiatives such as newsletters, client events, or social media content.
- Collaborate with team members on special projects and research assignments.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn financial planning software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and client service.
- Active interest in obtaining the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation is preferred.
